West edge Cosmos in Lae

 SECOND-placed West overcame Cosmos 1-0 in the main fixture of the Lae Football Association’s Round 10 games on Sunday.

The win shot West to the top of the ladder after City United’s lose to Esso. 

In the other ‘A’ league men’s games played on Saturday Blue Kumuls beat Coronation Momase 2-1, Esso defeated City United 3-2 while on Sunday’s games Murat drew with Aire 0-0, Atungs lost to Sentas 2-3, Unitech and Defence settled for a 0-0 draw while Poro FC was on the bye.

Cosmos with several National Soccer League players in the likes of Valentine Nelson, Clancy Moiya, Japhet Tianpo, Kohu Liam and goalkeeper Ronald Warisan had opportunities to score but could not convert as Wests dogged defence kept them out.

Towards the end, Wests Gabby Dibe made no mistake with a chance inside the penalty area to put his side 1-0 up with less than a quarter of the match remaining.

West then closed out the game with a risk-free football until the final whistle.
