West Sepik police boss claims officers helped rob supermarket

WEST Sepik police commander Moses Ibsagi believes police officers have conspired with suspects to rob a substantial amount of money from Papindo Supermarket in Aitape district.
Chief Sgt Ibsagi said this after noting that police officers, although armed, did not pursue the suspects after their getaway vehicle broke down during their escape.
“Armed police officers didn’t attempt to shoot and stop fleeing suspects. They just sat idle in their vehicle and watched the suspects get out of the getaway vehicle and escape on foot into the bush,” Ibsagi said.
Ibsagi said nine suspects armed with firearms and knives allegedly robbed Papindo and escaped with an undisclosed but substantial amount of money and other valuable items like mobile phones on Monday morning.
“They then escaped in their getaway vehicle past a police vehicle and to the old airstrip at Nuku camp enroute to Wewak.”
