HUNDREDS of people are in the Dei-Muglamp district of Western Highlands for the Christian Fellowship women’s convention.

The convention was opened yesterday by evangelist Michael Jack and will end tomorrow.

Although the area is popular for tribal fights, five councillors from the area agreed to hold the convention there because of this.

Themed “The power of women”, participants will discuss growth and development of women, why women were created, potential of women, how they can participate in development and issues regarding violence against women.

National women’s leader Ruth Rimb said many women did not understand their role in the family, community, province or nation.

She said some women believed that getting married and having children were their only roles in life and they were never coached to make use of their talent.

Rimb said many women exposed to violence and who had rows with their husbands were now living a happy life with their families after going through discussions, prayers and skill training.
