NEGOTIATIONS are underway to trial the North Fly Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup on Dec 7 in Western.
North Fly CCIC coordinator John Passingan said there would be eight spots to play for in the trial at a venue in the district yet to be confirmed.
“People in Western are interested and passionate about rugby league. There is a lot of potential in Western but we lack exposure,” Passingan said.
The cup challenge in North Fly District will kick off at the same time as the other centres in the tournament draw.
The Jiwaka challenge will be in Minj, Enga challenge in Wapenamanda, Eastern Highlands challenge in Goroka and Morobe challenge in Lae.
Passingan called on teams in Kiunga, Tabubil and Nigerum to field teams to affiliate with a K1000 affiliation fee.
“We only require eight teams for a start and evaluate its success or failure from there,” Passingan said.
On an overall note, we have gauged a lot interest in launching the cup challenge in Western’s North Fly district. Eight teams is a good number to start with.”
Passingan said although time was against them but he was confident that his committee would be able to be part of the CCIC competition. “I call on the leaders and businesses to back this initiative in the province.”
Passingan said affiliation fee could be deposited into CCIC BSP Account: 1001682713.
