WEWAK Netball Association in East Sepik are working to identify potential players to represent the province at the national championships in September in Port Moresby.

Association president Melvina Nakin said  round one of matches were over and officials would be in a better position to identity players come game one of the second round this weekend.

Nakin said the six club association has 25 teams competing in five divisions. The divisions were Under-13, U15, U18, open and seniors division.

“We are now on normal competition and our semi and grand finals are expected to commence in September or October,” Nakin said.

 Nakin said some of her girls were very talented players and expected them to do better in the coming National championships.

She said plans for a fund-raiser was currently underway.

The fundraising drive was to help them with their travel costs and the executives had  already written to business houses in Wewak for sponsorship.

In the weekend results, top sides Saints, Anness and Boco dominated the show with wins over their opponents. Boco walloped Royals 25- 6. Anness stopped Heights 25- 11 and Saints marched over Kipes 20- 17.

For the junior divisions under 17 Boco edged out Royals 9- 8. Kipes beat Saints 10- 8 and Anness over Heights 15- 8.
