White copra bringing in K1mil: Dealer

THE exporting of white copra is bringing in around K1 million plus a month in East New Britain (ENB), a dealer says.
The production of white copra in ENB is a recent development built off the province’s main copra industry with growers supplying direct export of the edible white copra to buyers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Coconut Resource Ltd (CRL) New Guinea Islands supply coordinator Kevin Kasap said with a sixth shipment of white copra last month, there was over a million kina in revenue coming into the province.
Kasap told The National in Kokopo last Wednesday that the sixth shipment recently comprised 10 containers containing 108 metric tonnes or 45,000 bags white copra.
He said each container exported brought in K40,000.
Kasap said CRL was ready and had signed another contract for 20 containers to be sent out within 60 days and this had spurred white copra production across all four districts.
He said the Kokonas Indastri Korporesen extension team was continuing with training on white copra production in the districts of Rabaul, Kokopo, Gazelle and Pomio as well as the rest of the NGI.
