WHO needs better leaders

Letters

AT a time when a deadly plague similar to the Spanish flue and Black Death is causing much uncertainty among the world’s population, everyone wants to look up to the World Health Organisation for guidance and reassurance.
Unfortunately, since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, the head of the WHO has fallen short when speaking to the media.
His latest statement of not having a “silver bullet” to stop the virus and the notion that there may never be a successful vaccine, gives rise to many skeptics around the world asking whether the current head of the World Health Organisation is serious about saving human lives.
From a distance, we were not able to understand why Taiwan and the United States were questioning the WHO’s conduct earlier in the Covid-19 crisis, however, as time progresses, one could distinguish loopholes in the current the WHO leadership.
Has the WHO exhausted all its lead doctors and scientists?
The world needs a decisive leader to lead in the fight against the Covid-19.
Those of us in smaller countries want to look up to a reassuring leader rather than one who gives excuses.
It is in our best interest that the present head of the WHO consider stepping aside to allow someone else to lead.
It is a huge call but it must be done for the good of humanity.
