Resources not distributed equally

Letters

PAPUA New Guinea has a population of over 8 million people.
We received political independence in 1975 on a golden platter.
If we had used our resources wisely, PNG would a well-developed nation by now.
As citizens, we don’t like the way our country is being run.
We want prosperity.
In PNG, the rich are becoming richer and the poor become poorer.
Why?
Because resources are not being shared equally.
Public servants are working for the interest of their political leaders and not the way people want or deserve.
Services are not being delivered to rural areas, accessibility via roads and bridges is still a major concern, the prices of goods and services keep increasing and on top of all this, parents are still struggling with school fees.
People have been crying out for help for years but nothing has been done.
We are lost in our own country.
Our rich country is going down the drain.
When will PNG change?
Here are some things the Government can do:

  • ALL Government assets should be released back to the Government.
  • PRIVATELY owned businesses and individuals who have shared Government assets must be released.
  • BAN all security firms operating in PNG and the Government must set up a Central Security Agency which looks after all businesses in PNG.
  • GIVE more funds to the Works Department to handle projects rather than giving contracts to the contractors or private companies; and,
  • MORE funds for the agriculture sector to run plantations and other related activities.

The people are tired and don’t want the Government to feed private companies any more.

  • LK, thank you for sharing your thoughts and the good ideas. However, all these problems are direct result of corruption. Until and unless we put our heads together and completely weed out the systemic and systematic corruption, our country will continue to take the downward spiral.
