WHP police ban liquor shops

WESTERN Highlands police commander Jacob Kamiak has banned liquor shops in Lower Nebilyer.
“No more liquor shops,” he said.
“Liquor is triggering problems among youths in Tambul-Nebilyer.”
Kamiak told the Palga and Upka tribes last Friday at a peace ceremony that liquor would make youths remember past events and create problems again, destroying the peace they forged.
“I will make sure police patrol the area,” he said.
“We will not see any liquor shops.
“Every councillor and community leader must support the police to strengthen peace in communities.”
Kamiak said liquor was one of the major causes of lawlessness in the country. “Youths drink excessively and create law and order problems for everyone,” he said.
“They have a serious attitude problem when they drink alcohol.
“They do not know how to drink and behave.”
Local level government (LLG) president Tony Wek said work was in progress to build a LLG chamber funded by the government of China. “We will soon look at rebuilding the police station that was destroyed during the tribal fight,” he said.
“People have felt the pain of tribal fights, they are now looking forward to rebuilding their lives and participate in agriculture and small and medium enterprise activities.
“It is true liquor that will bring destruction and destroy peace.
“We will support the police to make sure no one is selling liquor in the LLG.”
Kamiak said everyone in the community would support the work of churches and police to ensure people attended church services and live a trouble-free life.
“We must stand united to make sure no problems are created.”
