WESTERN Highlands has established a provincial tourism bureau to promote culture and tourism activities in the province.
The Western Highlands Tourism Bureau (WHTB) executive director Samuel Angimb said this week that all culture, tourism and heritage functions would fall under this new entity starting next year.
Angimb said the aim of establishing this entity was to promote culture and tourism in the province as well as abroad, which is also a policy of Governor Tom Olga.
He said it was Olga’s vision to promote tourism in a much bigger and better way and, as such, he had initiated the initiatives.
The WHTB was endorsed by the provincial executive council on Sept 26 , giving it the full blessing for its establishment and operations in promoting tourism, culture and heritage in WHP.
Angimb said the WHTB would also affiliate to the South Pacific Tourism Bureau and the World Tourism Bureau in marketing WHP nationally and internationally.
Angimb also said that Olga wished to have representatives from WHP to participate and promote our unique culture at festivals in the Pacific and  in other regions.
He said unlike coffee and tea, which might one day run out, tourism was here to stay if people practised, promoted and taught the young generation their culture.
