WHP wants to benefit from LNG neighbouring Enga and SHP

WESTERN Highlands leaders are urged to unite with leaders from Southern Highlands and Enga so that the people  also benefit from the spin-off  benefits from the PNG LNG gas project and the Porgera gold mine.
Michael Pundia, a chief from the Jika tribe, said the province was missing out on benefits from the multi-billion kina project and called on members of parliament from the three provinces to address the need for the people in all three provinces to benefit from the projects.
He said Western Highlands was the gateway and it was not fair that its people missed out on the benefits.
“If you are at Kagamuga Airport, you will see that people have no time to spend their money in the province because they will always fly out and is not good for the province,” Pundia said.
He said this showed that there was no quality leadership and parliamentarians were trying to benefit themselves and not the people.
“If you are elected by the people to represent them than why are you failing your people by not helping them through negotiations with the other provinces to be engaged in spin-off businesses?” Pundia said.
“This province is flooded with people from the other two provinces with all our schools occupied by them and why are Western Highlanders missing out on the spin of benefits?”
He said WHP leaders had to do something so that people would benefit from projects that were coming up.
