Wigmen hope to improve form against Mioks

HELA Wigmen say they are eyeing a strong start when they host Enga Mioks in their round-13 Digicel Cup fixture at the Santos National Football Stadium on Sunday (3.30pm kick-off).
Coach Seth Rip said he was not pleased with his Kroton-sponsored side’s first-half performance against Goroka Lahanis despite a 22-12 win last Sunday.
He said his men needed to cut their errors and improve in attack against the Enga government-backed visitors in the nation’s capital.
The Mioks recorded two straight wins before losing to Rabaul Gurias 12-20 at the Kalabond Oval last weekend.
They are fifth on the ladder despite a slow start to the season.
The Mioks are aiming to maintain their spot in the top-six and will look to match the 2020 premiers.
Wigmen halves Tony Wemin and Solomon Pokari will look to improve from last week.
Wigmen fullback Allan Simberi has been effective in attack and will be a go-to man for points.
Wigmen forwards Atua Nogoya, who scored a try last week, and SP Hunter Samuel Yegip will look to dominate up the middle.
Rip said last week that his men were eyeing another premiership and that their remaining games would be crucial to the third-placed side on the 12-team ladder.
“We have to win all our remaining games,” he said.
“It will be tough, but we want to go deep into the finals.
“We have to start now and improve each week as we near the finals.”
