HELA Wigmen continue their perfect Digicel Cup start with a 36-14 win over Central Dabaris in round four at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
The Dabaris were in the contest until the 37th minute as they held Wigmen to a 10-10 scoreline.
But the Kroton-sponsored reigning premiers had too much class in Stanford Talita, Allan Simbiri, Tommy Moide, Siki Konden and Jordan Steven who all contributed to the Wigmen’s seven tries.
The Dabaris scored three tries through Wallen Tau Loi, Gary Ware and Papa Otto.
Only one conversion was successful.
The Wigmen now joint leaders with fellow perfect starters Mendi Muruks and Lae Tigers.
The Tigers, however, have a more superior points differential than the Wigmen (second) and Muruks (third).
Papua New Guinea Nines representative Stanford Talita was named as the man of the match as he set up two tries and scored one himself on the right flank.
Former Rabaul Gurias playmaker Simbiri also starred for the Wigmen as he had a hand in most of the tries, kicked four conversions out of seven attempts and scored a four-pointer himself in a 12-point haul.
Dabaris coach Gairo Pepena was frustrated with the loss.
“We took the wrong options in our attack,” he said.
“We had the Wigmen on the ropes, but we failed to build pressure.
“A lot of players will be axed for our next match following this loss.”
