A MOTHER and her five-year-old daughter have been treated for injuries when a “wire-catapult” hit them during a fight among youths last week.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said the shaft of the weapon went through the child’s and the mother’s arms.
“It (shaft) was almost half-a-meter long,” Beli said.
“The mother and daughter were taken to the Tumarau health centre in Turubu. After five hours, the wire was removed from the child and the mother. They’re recovering at Tumarau.”
He said the use of the wire-catapult was common in East Sepik.
The incident happened last Wednesday when a fight broke out during a volleyball competition at Mondomondo.
Beli said the mother and her daughter were trying to flee on a tractor with others when they were hit.
Police are looking for the suspects who are known to them.
