With driver’s licence in hand students face a brighter future

A GROUP of students in Lae have received driving licences after going through a four-week driving course at Butibum village in the Ahi local-level government.
Facilitator Michael Daure said the Ginigoada Foundation aimed to help the less fortunate and give them a second chance.
Students spent one week on theory and three on the practical training.
They were assessed by officers from the traffic registry before given their licence.
Daure said most of the 56 students came from Lae and the rest from other districts.
“Most are unemployed, some are not educated. Helping a human being to succeed in life a second time around is very emotional,” Daure said.
Chinatown police station commander Sergeant Kapinias Laman thanked Daure, from Butibum village, for the initiative to help the young people. “Most of the participants still struggle to find work,” he said.
“The driving licence they have in their hands will help them find jobs.
“I want to see more of such trainings to change mindsets of youths in the community.”
