THE opening of the new Swire Shipping office in Lae last Friday signifies the commitment it has towards its customers and communities in the country and the region, an official says.
Swire Shipping country manager Alistair Skingley said being one of the oldest shipping companies in the country, they were looking at customer service and upgrading its shipping network at all its ports of call.
He said Swire Shipping was taking in eight new vessels with most of them to call into some ports in the country.
When asked how the Covid-19 had affected the company’s operations, Skingley said it had a devastating impact on people and businesses but the company had done its best to ensure it operated despite the Covid-19 threat.
“This indicates that in Papua New Guinea, there is growth despite the negative impressions that the country’s economy is stagnant,” he said.
Skingley thanked the company’s hardworking staff for their efforts in ensuring customers were served thoroughly and that shipments were done on time.
Lae branch manager Isabel Maguire said the new office in Lae was a great step as it had the busiest port in the country and was Swire’s biggest hub and would best serve their clients.
She said Swire Shipping had also introduced a new system that would enable the company to closely monitor customer queries and other services.
