LOCAL recruitment for phase 2 of the Ihu Special Economic Zone (Isez) project in Kikori, Gulf, will start, according to MP Soroi Eoe.
This follows the contract signing between Isez and Human Capital Management Solutions (HCMS) in Port Moresby yesterday.
Eoe, who is Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, said locals from Ihu, Baimuru and Kikori would be given first preference to be recruited as programme managers, team leaders, officers and village-based assistants. He said a fair representation of woman candidates was also important.
The number of recruitments was not confirmed yesterday.
“This is not one project, there are many other projects, such as a petroleum park, industrial city, international airport, hydro scheme, tourism infrastructure and a first of its kind under the 2019 Special Economic Zone Act,” Eoe said.
“We have two years to complete the social mapping and environmental study aspect of it, including engineering.”
Eoe said the first K10 million for this year was already available for the project.
“We are also signing with other institutions and Government organisation to participate with us in this space,” he said.
Isez project director Peter Kengemar said apartment from recruitment and phase 2 programme includes:

  • RESTRUCTURING of Isez office;
  • ROLLING out project awareness in impact areas;
  • SOCIAL mapping and landowner studies;
  • ENVIRONMENTAL impact studies and permit;
  • SITE improvements including roads, jetty, airport, telecommunication, power, water, mobilisation camps;
