People urged to work for better living standards

PEOPLE of Kokopo, East New Britain, have been urged to work together to achieve the district’s goal of raising living standards.
Kokopo MP Emil Tammur said Kokopo had invested in cocoa and copra development in the past years and many families were now benefiting from the investment.
Tammur wanted to see everyone working together, especially in the economic and agriculture sector, so that families could raise their standards of living.
He explained that the Kokopo administration, in partnership with the Kokonas Indastri Korporesen (KIK), had developed the copra industry in the district through the production of white copra.
“Kokopo piloted the white copra six months ago when we entered into a partnership with the KIK,” he said.
“Everyone in the district is now producing white copra which the price is much higher than smoked copra.
“Kokopo also invested in the development of the cocoa industry in the aftermath of the cocoa pod borer which almost wiped out the industry.”
The Kokopo development authority last year allocated more than K600,000 for the rehabilitation of both and copra.
