You may be forginven to think that this is a bridge to nowhere – because it does not really get you to the other side.
But that is the Kiari Bridge, north of Wasu station in Tewae-Siassi, which is meant to link the Saidor people in Madang with Morobe.
The bridge was built during the time of Morobe premier Utula Samana, who has since died.
Along the stretch, there are huge rivers like Yopno at Ronzi and Singirokai bordering Malalamai in Saidor of Raicoast district, Madang.
People along these coastline fridges really need a road and bridge to access markets and business including basic services. They have huge potential in fishery in tuna and sea cucumber, cocoa, copra and tourism among betelnut and lime business.
MP Kobby Bomario is working tirelessly to get funding to link these bordering communities. Despite the existence of treks that takes days to walk through, people risk lives to travel by dinghies. Wasu-Saidor cost K55 and Wasu Long Island is 1hr 55min. Wasu-Madang is K70 compared to K200 for Wasu-Lae.
