When this Mare-Wampet Bridge opened in June last year, it was seen as a lifeline for both the people in the area and Wafi mining’s spinoff activities.
It cost K3.5 million to built and was opened by Kelly Naru, who was governor at the time.
About 1000 people from the district of Wampar attended the opening.
Naru had described the bridge a milestone achivement, but he is no longer there, having being defeated in the general election that followed the opening.
Now the bridge is in trouble as erosion threatens to cut it off from the river bank and leave it standing on its own, inaccessible to the people who need to use it.
Someone should have seen this problem and someone should have had it fixed.
