MORE than 300 workers were registered during the National Identification (NID) corporate registration day at Morobe Civil Identification and Registration office in Lae on Saturday.
Mobile team coordinator Terence Bulingu said the registration day would be conducted every two weeks and would give time for corporate bodies to register.
“Some of the companies that participated in the corporate registration day include Lae Biscuit, UMW, Westpac, BSP, Digicel, Hornibrooks and Awilunga, Prima Smallgoods and Crosbies,” he said.
“The NID team re considering different approaches for corporate bodies to benefit, and this is one.”
Registrar-General of Noel Mobiha, who was present on the day, said there would be efforts to introduce mobile SMS systems to inform applicants of the status of their application.
“Though the Government would like to see all the districts in Papua New Guinea to take ownership of registering their population, the exercise may not be given priority by some districts due to various reasons,” he said.
“Bulolo MP Sam Basil was the first to react positively by funding the National Identification team in Bulolo.
“This is a good example and I would like to encourage other districts to take ownership of registering their population.”
Mobiha said there are plans to extend the Lae office to cater for the increased biometrics. He said two Toyota Land Cruisers would be sent to Lae for the work.
