Despite the existence of the government’s tuition fee free (TFF) policy, many schools need facilities like teachers’ houses, classrooms, science labs, libraries, clean water and sanitation, and good power supplies to enable academic excellence to be achieved.
Nawaeb Lutheran High School in Morobe is one of those schools facing overcrowding issues in the girls’ dormitory.
The dorm was for 40 students but now has 250. As a result, 12 girls share one cubicle that has two bunk beds.
It means that each bunk has two girls while the rest sleep on the floor, and more on the floor in the corridor.
Australia has come to the school’s aid with a funding of K350,000 for a new dorm.
