Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) prides itself on being a family sport with an all-inclusive philosophy.
While conducting their Kricket Blo Olgeta programme in Kimbe, West New Britain, they came across Tobie Charles, pictured, a 13-year-old from Bali village.
CPNG regional cricket manager Nathan Henry met Charles while conducting the programme at Karl Hesse Primary School.
When asked why he chose the sport, Charles said: “I love playing cricket, but no one had given me a chance until today.
“I want to bowl and take wickets.”
Henry said: “he can hit and catch the ball.
“He is amazing. Despite the challenges he faces, he is participating, having fun and doing really well.
“We are proud to engage everyone in our community.”
CPNG general manager Lee McDowell said they enjoyed their roles and were working hard to develop the sport.
“We hope to see Tobie playing a lot more cricket in Kimbe,” he said.
