Woman accused of murder to stand trial

A GULF woman accused of murdering her husband with a kitchen knife has been committed to stand trial in the National Court.
Magistrate Dessie Magaru yesterday in the Waigani Committal Court found that there was sufficient evidence to have Shemilla Kapoi, 28, from Sepoi village, Malalaua, Gulf, to stand trial for the alleged killing of her husband after a domestic dispute at their home in Tokarara, Port Moresby.
Kapoi remains in custody and will return to court on Friday for her statement which would be submitted through her lawyer David Kayok, from the Public Solicitors Office.
It is alleged that an argument ensued between the couple after the husband told Kapoi that he would go to Tokarara market so she should follow him and meet later at the market.
Kapoi was in their room while the husband was on the outside stairs of the house at the time of the alleged argument.
The husband became frustrated and went inside the house to start a fight with Kapoi.
Kapoi allegedly took a kitchen knife which she had brought when hearing her husband was coming in.
Kapoi then got mad during the argument and allegedly swung at the husband but he turned around to cover himself, resulting in Kapoi stabbing him in the back.
The knife penetrated his back and was removed by his brother but he died later.
Kapoi then went to the police station and surrendered and gave a confessional statement.
