A WOMAN was arrested during a dawn raid by police at a village in East Sepik for allegedly producing homebrew and growing marijuana.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said the woman was arrested at Musuwahen village in Kubalia.
He said the woman was identified by community leaders as one of the main producers of homebrew in the village.
Police acting on a tip-off conducted the raid at around 5am and arrested the woman.
Her husband fled.
Police uprooted 10 kilograms of marijuana from her garden.
Beli said most cases relating to homebrew productions involved men.
“Women are now tapping into that illegal business that is spoiling youths in the community,” Beli said.
