A WOMAN charged with stealing more than K19,000 from her guardians appeared at the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
Priscilla A’aron, from Tonu village in Siwai, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, allegedly stole K19,108.83 from Ryan Morgan’s bank account at Bank South Pacific between April 13 and May 9 in Port Moresby.
A’aron was unemployed and was looking for lodging when Morgan and his wife invited her to stay with them at Gerehu. She moved in with the Morgans in March.
It was alleged that the Morgans took A’aron in as part of their family and was allowed to shop for them and use their bank cards.
She not only had access to the family property but knew the family’s personal information and other facts.
Morgan and his wife started to notice unusual transactions on their bank statements that showed withdrawals and purchases at locations they did not go to.
They then discovered that a total of K19,108.83 had been withdrawn from Morgan’s account.
Morgan laid a complaint with police and they brought the matter to BSP where they ran through the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at BSP’s ATM machines at the locations to find out that a woman was withdrawing money from the Morgan’s account.
A’aron was brought to police where she admitted the offence and was formally arrested and charged.
She was released on K1,000 bail.
Police prosecutor Chief Sgt Koniu Polon told Magistrate Cosmas Bidar that A’aron had since left the Morgan home and presently did not have a permanent residence at the moment and court needed to place conditions on her bail to ensure she attended her court hearings.
A’aron said she was currently living with her sister at 6-Mile.
Magistrate Bidar ordered that she reported to the Waigani District Court Registry every Friday until her case was completed.
The matter was adjourned to July 4.
