POPONDETTA police have charged a woman from Poro village in Northern with the murder of her husband two weeks ago.
Acting provincial police commander Chief Sergeant Edric Boera told The National that the couple had an argument during which the husband was hit on the head with a dry coconut.
Boera said the victim was taken to the Popondetta General Hospital but died a few hours later.
He said the wife surrendered to police and is in custody. Their three children are with relatives.
“Her relatives asked me to release the suspect on Tuesday to attend the funeral of her husband but given the situation, I decided not to release her for her safety,” Boera said.
“The situation is still tense, especially with the relatives of the victim.
“They are not happy and anything can happen.”
He said the nature of the argument was not known.
“The victim was about 32 years old and the wife is about 30.”
