A MAN was allegedly stabbed and killed by his wife at Kokopo main market in East New Britain on Friday, a senior police officer says.
Provincial police commander Chief Insp Januarius Vosivai said police investigations that had started would help police establish the motive for the the killing.
The wife was charged with wilful murder and is in police custody.
Vosivai said the wife followed her husband to the market and stabbed him in the back with a pair of scissors.
He was rushed to St Mary’s Vunapope Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a two-year-old boy was killed on New Year’s Eve at Sonoma.
Vosivai said alcohol had been a contributing factor in the death.
He said the suspect had been charged with wilful murder and was in police custody.
“On Sunday morning the suspect under the influence of alcohol started arguing with the child’s father.
“He followed him to his house and attacked his family and killed his two-year-old son.
“These are two major incident reports in the province during New Year’s Eve but otherwise celebrations in the province were quiet,” Vosivai said.
