IT is time for Prime Minister James Marape and the Government to address the protracted issue of displaced Manam people, Madang Governor Ramsey Pariwa says.
“Their plight and sufferings have been ignored for far too long.
“They have been living in care homes with no Government support.
“We have refugees from other countries and they have been well taken care of.
“I see them living in hotels in Port Moresby,” he added.
Pariwa said the Manam people were still living in care centres with no support from the Government,” he said.
Speaking on the issue when Marape visited Madang yesterday, Pariwa said: “I am raising this Manam resettlement issue because I know, unlike past governments, you are a man who takes action, your Government takes action.
“So now that you are in Madang, please address the displaced people of Manam and start their resettlement.”
The people of Manam have been displaced since 2004, and have been living in three care centres in Bogia and Sumkar in Madang.
