POLICE have arrested a woman in Popondetta wanted by the court to answer false pretence charges against her.

Police said Patricia Manuda from Sedu village in Gone, Northern, was supposed to have appeared before the Waigani District Court in Port Moresby to answer the charges against her. But she failed to turn up and had been evading police ever since.

The court issued a warrant for her arrest.

Northern provincial police commander Snr Insp Jacob Singura said she was arrested by police on Monday in Popondetta.

Police alleged that on March 8 Manuda asked a man to lend her K1,500 and promised to repay him K2,500 later.

She wrote out a cheque for K2,500 and gave to him to cash later.

She then travelled to Popondetta .

Two weeks later the man went to the bank to cash the cheque but was told there was no money in the account.

The woman was then was arrested and the court allowed bail for K1,500.

She did not turn up at the next court hearing.

“She will be flown to Port Moresby for the hearing,” Singura said.

“Police investigators will escort her back early next week to the Boroko police station.”
