A woman accused of misappropriating K283,000 from her brother’s bank account has been committed to stand trial in the National Court.
Magistrate Paul Puri Nii told Deslyn Nigi, at a committal court in Waigani last Wednesday that police had provided sufficient evidence in the case.
Deslyn, 36, from Kobaibus village, Yangoru-Saussia in East Sepik was charged with one count of misappropriation.
The court heard Nambawan Super Ltd had paid K283,000 into Nigel Nigi’s Bank South Pacific Financial Group Limited account in 2013.
Nigel was one of the five beneficiaries on record for the estate of his late father Simon Nigi.
Police stated that on Nov 29, 2013 Nigel was in New Zealand for his pilot training when Deslyn, his adopted sister, asked him to check and verify his account details.
Police said Nigel verified his details with Deslyn as she was working with BSP at that time.
Police alleged that Deslyn then opened a new bank account number under Nigel’s name without Nigel’s consent and transferred K283,000 to that new account.
Police said Deslyn explained to Nigel that she kept the money in a separate account specifically for his living expenses in New Zealand.
Police alleged that between Nov 29, 2013, to Dec 31, 2014, Deslyn misused the money on a housing project and other personal expenses.
