WOMEN are important and special human beings on this earth as they give life, says Maprik MP John Simon.

Simon made the comment during an Assemblies of God (AOG) Northern Region Women’s Convention at Maprik Secondary School last Monday.

More than 1,000 women from the region attended the week-long convention.

The AOG Northern Region Women’s convention covers East and West Sepik provinces and involved participants from 18 districts.

Simon told more than 2,000 people at the convention opening that women played an important role in society.

“This year’s theme is ‘Partnering with the Holy Spirit’ meaning women must take their rightful place in whatever they are doing in their lives,” Simon said.

He said women must know that they were special people as they gave source to life.

Simon acknowledged the AOG Church in the Northern Region for organising and hosting such gathering, saying such gatherings would strengthen their faith.

Simon said his office was willing to financially help and support church groups in the district.

He urged church groups to work together and form a Council of Churches.

“In this year’s budget in my joint district budget priority committee has allocated one tenth of the budget to churches,” Simon said.

To support the work of AOG women in the region he presented K20,000.
