TALENTED women from Motu-Koitabu villages in the National Capital District for the first time competed in the Hanuabada League Nines challenge at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium at Konedobu on Saturday.
There was no shortage of skill and speed in the raw talents witnessed by a vocal crowd, among them local league legend and pioneer Sir Dadi Toka.
“This is good as it brings and unites the young women in the Motu-Koita villages as one and playing against each other for the first time,” Toka said.
Sir Dadi said the concept was good and credited former Snax Lae Tigers player Nao Boge for introducing this event to identify potential talents to be selected for the Hanuabada Hawks women’s squad in the Port Moresby Rugby League competition.
He also thanked Pacific Industries Ltd which is the naming rights sponsor under the GoGo Cola brand for the Hanuabada league 9s competition .
Sir Dadi thanked company owner Paul Chue, who is also a former Papua New Guinea Kumuls captain (Kumul No. 1) for his tremendous support.
Boge was so impressed with the talents from villages like Pari and Tatana who were up against teams from Hanuabada like Skimac Storms who had experienced players like Mareva Oda leading the side.
He said it was going to be a stiff battle between Storms and Poreporena Marlins in the play offs next week.
“We will then announce our potentials to be included in the Hawks women’s team for 2018 season, as this competition will help us to pick the best,” Boge said.
