OFFICIALS from Apec’s economic committee will be participating in meetings and workshops to share experiences and learn about leading practices.
The Apec 2018 PNG Co-ordination Authority said in a statement those meetings would cover a range of structural reforms that could make economies operate more efficiently, boost productivity and inclusive growth.
The workshops and meetings began on Thursday in Port Moresby and end tomorrow.
A workshop involving competition policymakers and regulators from the Apec region will explore how economies can establish effective regimes to handle proposed mergers and acquisitions between businesses within a market, supporting efforts to boost market transparency and competition.
A workshop on the use of modern technology to facilitate dispute resolution and electronic agreement management for businesses contracting across borders will explore how businesses, especially small businesses, can enter into contracts and resolve contractual disputes in a way that is low-cost and accessible.
They will join officials from Apec’s human resources development working group to discuss how economies can adopt structural reforms to boost human capital development, drawing from the recommendations of a key Apec report developed last year.
Officials will also share experiences and leading practices on ways to make government more open and transparent, and to adopt digital technology to support the delivery of government services.
