Women from LNG villages learn to sew

Forty women from villages along the PNG LNG plant site in Central learnt some sewing skills after undergoing a 11-day training programme.
Advancing PNG: Women’s Leaders Network with funding from ExxonMobil PNG Lltd, conducted a train the trainers advanced tailoring and sewing machine care and maintenance to help with upgrade skills to levels that could be used to support livelihoods in communities.
President of the network Seini Fisi’ihoi said their vision was to see every women in the area reach their full potential.
“We are excited to continue providing access to resources and connections that will help these participants make their plans and dreams a reality,” she said. Facilitators Kofe Ibu, of Kutubu, and Doreka Dai, of Diari Tailoring, Boera, said they willingly shared their skills so that participants could also produce quality garments and supply customers in Port Moresby.
LNG plant manager Jagir Baxi said the training would empower participants to advance their families and communities.
