THREE women have been tortured over sorcery allegations but no complaint has been laid over the torture they received for fear of “retaliation and tribal warfare”, a senior police officer says.
Southern Highlands police commander Chief Supt Martin Lakari said the elderly women were tortured, with injuries visible on their hands and feet.
“The three women were rescued at Tundep village, Nipa, three weeks ago after they were accused of causing the death of a man by ‘eating his heart,” he said.
“The women, all from Lai Valley, Imbonggu, have been returned to their families by police.”
A photo via social media showed the three women seated on a roofing iron in the middle of a crowd, filled with men and children. One was bleeding, with the stone holding up the roofing iron, covered in blood. The crowd didn’t seem too keen to help them.
“The relatives of the deceased will not assist the police with their investigations,” Chief Supt Lakari said. “The investigators have insisted in getting names and doing the investigation but we have been blocked by the family of the deceased.”
He said “police will only act on a complaint if an official report is laid”.

  • Sorcery is real. It is a spiritual problem that has spiritual solution. I have had the opportunity to talk to one of the possessd. She was a lady, who wished to be free and God helped her. I witnessed her excorsim. This thing is real. Our only safety is being under the care of Jesus

  • For a Chief Supt in the police to condemn the actions of the culprits and yet unable to intervene on behalf of the poor women who are helpless in deemed ignorance at the highest level. How on earth did the police ignored such situation but would go on rampage if it involve the wealthy, or they always show their brute on innocent citizens but on this?????????????????????????????????????????

  • sorcery is real and I agree with Watchman. The ONLY way to avoid from being attacked is to repent and follow Jesus Christ and have faith in him. I am very optimistic that Police personnel who served in the highlands provinces would have witnessed real life stories of witch craft (sanguma) practiced in the highlands especially in Simbu province. There are no physical proof or evidence of sorcery that’s why police can not do anything to support the victim of sorcery death. It is a spiritual ritual that have no evidence……..
