THE Malaysia Association of PNG (MAPNG) donated K40,000 to PNG Women’s Cancer Foundation and Diabetes Association PNG (DAPNG) on Friday.
The cancer foundation and DAPNG received K20,000 each from MAPNG treasurer Kee Lim.
MAPNG has been supporting non-government organisations in the country.
The cancer foundation and diabetes association got MAPNG support over the last few years.
Specialist obstetrician/gynaecologist with the National Capital District health services Dr Lutty Amos told The National the funds would be used for awareness programmes, support more implementation, consumables and screening for cervical cancer.
She said their workers were paid by the Government but their facilities, programmes and awareness campaigns were mostly carried out with funds they received from MAPNG.
MAPNG chairman Chu Pang Heng said they have been fundraising to support charity work in the country over the years.
“We raised K9.4 million last year,” he said.
“Some of those funds are now donated to PNG Women’s Cancer Foundation and Diabetes Association,” she said.
“This year we are looking at raising up to K10 million.
“All this money will be used to fund training for nurses and doctors and support disadvantaged women and children in the settlements.”
DAPNG vice-president Pradeep Panda said funds received would be allocated to support awareness for non-communicable diseases and advance awareness in the social media platform.
“Social media platform will help the association to educate those who are afraid to openly discuss the issue,” he said.
“We do not have proper statistics for the number of people with diabetes.
“Currently, people do not watch their diet so we want to educate them on early prevention.”

  • Thank you, The Malaysian Association of PNG for your kind generosity to assist the PNG Women’s Cancer Foundation and Diabetes Association PNG. Such donation from the good Samaritan will boost the awareness campaign to fight the Cancer and Diabetes in our mothers and sisters.
