Man steals from employer

A MAGISTRATE at the Lae District Court told a 23-year-old man that when one broke the law, his or her liberty became restricted.
Magistrate Edward Kupo told Steven Saki from M’Buke village in Lorengau, Manus, that the cornerstone of life was being honest and first of all honesty to one’s self.
Kupo said this after sentencing Saki to two years’ imprisonment before suspending it and putting him on a good behaviour bond for stealing more than K10,900 belonging to ANZ Bank on Aug 10, 2018 in Lae.
Kupo took into consideration the plea by Saki to pay back the total amount over a two-month period.
Saki’s bail of K1,500 was refunded but of which K500 were to be held for surety purposes and the remaining added to the amount that Saki was to pay ANZ Bank back.
Kupo told Saki that the court was lenient on him and it was to be the last time for him to do what he had done.
The court heard that on Aug 10, 2018, Saki discovered K10,919 in his drawer and did not report his findings to his superiors.
Instead, he took the cash home without the management’s permission and used it.
Investigations found out that Saki made a cash deposit of K1,800 on Aug 29, 2018 to ANZ Bank.
