THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League board appointed Ruth Waram of Oil Search as chairman for the PNG Orchids.
The announcement of the appointment was made on Wednesday coinciding with the naming of Orchids coach David Westley.
PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka spoke of Waram as a professional who has more than 20-years experience as a journalist in the private sector and a rugby league fan who has worked in partnership with PNGRFL through the Orchids major sponsor Oil Search Limited.
“We believe the appointment of Ruth Waram will head this Orchids programme to be in line with our emphasis on equal gender participation in the sport,” Tsaka said.
“Ruth brings with her a wealth of experience both in private sector management and passion in the sport of rugby league.
“We have full confidence that she will be able to move this programme forward and to grow the women’s game.
Waram said she was excited to work with coach David Westley to ensure the Orchids programme was a success.
