WAIGANI Police Station commander acting Insp Bill Werake says maintaining mutual understanding and trust with the community is vital to peace and good order.
According to a statement from the NCD/Central divisional command, Insp Werake visits residents at Morata regularly to listen to their concerns and explain to them issues relating to the law and functions of the police.
Insp Werake said life in the settlement was sometimes disrupted by minor disagreements and disputes, which could be resolved through mediation, common sense and understanding.
He said that’s why it was important for members of the constabulary to forge a relationship with the community.
He said through such mutual relations, the community could understand the essence of resolving disputes through dialogue and understanding.
Insp Werake said such relations could help police resolve serious crimes such as armed robberies, murders and rapes which remained a threat to the communities.
