A TWO-day National Economic and Fiscal Commission workshop held in Madang province was funded by AusAID.
The theme of the workshop was “The ripple effect”, which looked at the multi-directional impact on provincial administrations and those down to districts and facility level.
It will help provincial department heads to perform their duties and ensure the infrastructure paid for by the government is not wasted.
Commission chief executive officer, Dr Nao Badu said the workshop had been running for five years and it had changed dramatically.
He said in the past years, it was more like explaining the laws and sections, “but now the provinces talk more about monitoring and other broader concepts”.
He said they covered all provinces in the country, including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
Badu said there were provinces that performed well while others did not.
He said it depended on their administration capacity, leadership and technical aspects.
He said it was good that many participants raised questions that could be beneficial for their
respective provinces.
The workshop ended with each province coming up with resolutions and strategies to
improve and maintain service delivery.
