Wounded escapee found

A WANTED criminal, who escaped from police custody while nursing pellet wounds to his ankle at the Wewak General Hospital over the weekend, has been recaptured.
Wewak police found the man lying helplessly in a sago-thatched house at Markham Point last Sunday morning and carried him into a waiting vehicle to the Wewak police station where he is currently undergoing interrogation.
Acting provincial police commander Insp Charles Parinjo said the man,  identified as Kevin Bukka, was wanted by police for a string of robberies and other serious crimes committed in Wewak this year.
Insp Parinjo said Bukka was shot in both ankles by police who responded to a hold-up at Sokondai Club near Kreer Freeway last Saturday evening.
Bukka suffered from excessive bleeding and was rushed to the Wewak General Hospital where he was hospitalised but his friends aided his escape last Sunday.
Police said Bukka was unable to go further as he could only be carried by his friends who attempted to hide him in a house which police later managed to identify and locate him.
Meanwhile, Insp Parinjo has appealed to Bukka’s associates to immediately surrender as their identities were known.
