CENTRE Jill Yalon helped Two-Mile United beat Sub City Raiders 12-8 in the Moresby South Rugby League women’s grand final at Moresby South Stadium on Sunday.
United bagged K10,000 and the Justin Tkatchenko Cup while Raiders settled for K5,000.
Former Papua New Guinea sevens rugby union representative Yalon was in devastating form with a number of line-breaks and stretching the Raiders defence to score United’s second try in the first half.
She was named the player of the match.
Yalon was supported by halfback Lancy Laki and hooker Lisa Bina who also dominated in attack.
This resulted in the first try to captain Susan Yol who smashed the Raiders defensive line.
Raiders replied through centre Hannah Tu’u who crossed over for a double, but both conversions were unsuccessful.
But Yalon’s try restored United’s lead (10-8) at the break.
The second half was uneventful as both sides created limited opportunities before a Laki penalty goal sealed the premiership for United.
PNG Orchids forward Janet Johns also had a field day with a number of big hit-ups.
Raiders skipper Flora Yanu, Tu’u, Angela Hoki, Hernie Weki and Mary Paru tried desperately, but to no avail.
