Yama: Many find it hard to locate MPs

MADANG Governor Peter Yama says most of the Members of Parliament (MPs) are based in Port Moresby and many find it difficult to locate them for service.
“I think I am the only one who spends much time in the province, unlike the other Open MPs from Madang, Sumkar, Bogia, Usino-Bundi, Middle Ramu and Rai Coast,” he said.
“They should come and work with me instead of isolating themselves from me.
“I am not happy with what happened to the funeral service of the Middle Ramu MP.
“The local MPs from Madang were not present when the Governor-General (Sir Bob Dadae) was present to hand over the body to the late MPs’ relatives.
“Their actions show how we work in the province.
“There is no co-operation and that is why I am now working closely with the ward councillors who are with the people.
“They know how the people feel, so they can bring their issues direct to us for help.”
Yama said those were the reasons why he was now focused on working with ward councillors and local level government (LLG) presidents to deliver services to the people.
Yama spoke on Saturday when he presented K248,000 to 31 ward councillors of Sumgilbar LLG of Sumkar to help with activities.
He said since MPs were not attending the provincial executive meeting with him, he had to encourage LLG presidents and ward councillors to work closely with him to deliver services.
