You don’t need intelligence to live in peace

Letters, Normal

IT is really disheartening and sad to learn that the life of an intelligent young man has been lost as a result of another student violence at Unitech.
The University of Technology has, in recent years, been beset by violent ethnic clashes between students.
The fights that usually occur between students are usually of a very serious nature.
Students attack each other with so much bitterness and hatred.
One has to actually witness those fights first hand to understand what I am talking about.
It is a case of extreme violence and the perpetrators are, unfortunately, intelligent university students.
The violence at Unitech indicates a moral breakdown in this country.
A person in a normal frame of mind would not do such thing.
There is something sinister going on in our tertiary institutions. Students, with the exception of a minority, are taking drugs and consuming alcohol daily.
They are involved in sexual activities.
These activities are creating a fertile ground for the devil to get a firm foothold.
As a servant of God, I want to pose the students this question: Why do you hate each other so much and wish harm on your fellow student?
We must learn to live in harmony and love with other people irrespective of their ethnicity or race.
To do that is not a matter of the intellect but rather a matter of the heart.
My heart goes out to the parents of the student who was needlessly slain on campus.
I cannot truly fathom the pain they are going through at the moment.
