SINCE our world today is bombarded with the rapid growth of technologies and the computerisation of all things, a particular student is hoping for PNG to be on that stage of advancement in the future.

Othniel Vevara made this bold statement during a reception last Friday at the Chinese Embassy to farewell more than 30 students who will travel next month to China to undertake studies in various fields as part of the Chinese Government’s Scholarship Programme.

Vevara is one of the successful applicants selected and will take up the bachelor of electronics and information engineering programme at Changchung University of Science and Technology.

“When they (coordinators of the scholarships programme) called me and informed me that I was successful in the scholarship programme, I was shocked and surprised. I couldn’t believe it, but I was happy because it is a chance of a lifetime,” Vevara said.

“Last year I graduated at Port Moresby Technical College with a certificate in electronics, and with this scholarship assistance to undertake a bachelors programme, it is a plus for me to further my knowledge.”

The young Eastern Highlander said he would be focused and committed to his studies while in China rather than socialising and engaging in other unproductive activities which could  jeopardise his studies.

“After I complete my studies and attain my bachelor’s degree in China, I know that I will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge which I can fully use to help develop my country, in the area of electronics and information Engineering,” he said.
