It was a day full of fun for tennis and squash athletes as young as eight at the Port Moresby Racquet Club two weekends ago.
Club squash director Merlyn Alarcos said they had organised a squash and tennis competition for young athletes at the beginning of this year, with the initiative ending on Oct 8. In the squash competition, the finals ended well with The Edge and Mojo winning in the A-grade and C-grade divisions.
They defeated Dekenai and Pacific Industries.
“The squash junior finals were also completed over the weekend,” Alarcos said.
More than 30 junior players competed in the 10-week competition.
“The season ended well and children are now looking forward to the 2019 season,” she said.
Alarcos said Dennis Embetaya successfully defended his title in the U18 mixed division.
She said apart from the finals, International Tennis Federation development officer Gary Purcel ran a workshop for coaches and trainers.
The workshop attracted 20 participants.
The participants were presented with certificates after the workshop.
