YOUTH groups from around the country will prepare a 10-year national youth policy, according to National Youth Development Authority acting director Reuben Akia
Akia said youths from government departments, churches, international and non-government organisations and active youth groups would be asked to participate in the consultations.
“Their view about education, unemployment, low literacy and crime are vital to be noted in the policy framework,” he said.
“Papua New Guinea is made up of 70 per cent of the youth population and many of them are unemployed.
“Some are illiterate, and involved in law and order problems.
“Their participation and contribution will help us consider what must be done. The consultation will start from the Mamose region on August 20.
“Technical policy working groups will meet with the youths.
“The National Youth Development Authority was created as a commission in 2007 and through an act of parliament in 2014 became an authority.
“The 10-year youth policy from 2007 to 2017 expired last year.
“The new policy will target programmes for another 10 years from 2018 to 2028.”
