THE National Youth Workers Association general-secretary Joe Mesa has called on the National Youth Commission to say when the National Youth Council (NYC) will be set in place to coordinate youth activities in the country.
Mesa said with the budget of K8 million handed down, it was time for the commission to establish a NYC.
He said there was also a need for the national government to appoint the NYC chairman as the position had been vacant for some time.
National Youth Commissioner Johnson Hebe said establishing the council was among its plans to implement this year.
Hebe said an interim chairman was appointed, but was dismissed due to some mismanagement.
He responded to Mesa’s previous call in the media to establish a youth Ministry saying the commission will try its best to improve the life of youths in the nation with the little funding they have received before embarking on other bigger challenges.
“My view is that let’s prove to the government of the day that we’re able to manage youth issues from this level before moving to the next”, he said.
