YOUNG people from 35 churches in Port Moresby collected rubbish around a suburb before staging songs and dances as part of their wave walk programme.
Event coordinator Judah Memafu said they collected rubbish around Boroko before staging a concert.
“We broke into four groups and covered the whole Four-Mile area picking up rubbish, praying for the city and declaring God’s place in our hearts,” he said.
“We have 30 to 35 churches taking part and 17 different groups performing and ministering on stage.”
Memafu said the concert was to reach out to young people through things they were familiar with and liked doing.
“Our challenge is to reach (them) with young people-style activities. We also want to challenge youths to step out into the city and remind people that Jesus loves them.
“As young people, we believe that we should be taking steps to create positivity and change starting now – not to wait for tomorrow.”
He said the youths were from the Inter-Youth Wave organisation from different churches and denominations.
“It has youths from different churches and does not have any denomination and doctrine barriers. We are not talking denomination. We are not talking churches. We are just talking about the body of Christ coming together from different churches.”
